People analytics is not just an important concept but it has evolved into a science. Great Place to Work®  incorporates employee surveys and data from our Emprising™  platform into powerful analytics that have been used by thousands of employers and even Harvard Business Review. One analytic that is the cornerstone of Great Place to Work is the Trust Index Survey which captures the voices of employees in an organization and describes the extent to which an organization creates a great place to work For All™.

At the Vietnam Best Workplaces™ 2022 event in May this year, we published our very first Insights report based on the voices of employees at Vietnam Best Workplaces.

Based on insights gleaned from the Great Place to Work® Trust Index™ survey data and Culture Audit™ submissions, Best Workplaces have:

1) Leaders who walk-the-talk consistently and build trust through their actions and behaviors.

In these companies, leaders role model company values and employees experience this through their leaders’ communications, actions and daily interactions with them. They build credibility by hiring the right people and deploying their talents and skills optimally. Importantly, leaders do what they say, and their actions match their words. Among the Vietnam Best companies, 9 in 10 employees experience this consistently, which powerfully reinforces a culture of trust.

At DHL Express, who tops the Vietnam Best Workplaces™ 2022 list in the Medium and Large Category (100 or more employees), the company shared that leaders need to be empathetic and compassionate, and make informed decisions driven by data. Through their “Head, Heart and Guts” leadership principle – DHL expressed that it is one of the key factors that helped the company to remain resilient especially during challenging times. DHL Express became the number one workplace in Vietnam by balancing “Respect and Results”, where every employee shows respect to one another and receives strong support from peers and managers, while delivering service excellence to customers. This culture is underpinned by the company’s FOCUS strategy, as it aims to become the employer, and logistics provider of choice.

2) Employee engagement and communication is of paramount importance.

At Vietnam’s Best Companies, this was especially so during the Covid-19 pandemic, when many people faced logistical challenges and there were widespread concerns over health and job security. Managers at all levels from senior leaders to frontline managers reached out to their teams, made themselves accessible in a variety of ways and platforms, communicated openly about important issues and changes, and addressed employees’ questions and concerns. They actively collaborated with employees by eliciting feedback and suggestions on matters that would impact their jobs or work environment, and to develop viable solutions that would better meet employees’ needs.

At Capella Hanoi, the only hospitality representative in the Medium and Large Category (100 or more employees), the company conducts a monthly General Manager Dialogue with the motto “open sharing-serious acting”, indicating an open dialogue with follow-through actions, showing their People-First practice. The company conducts departmental level brainstorming sessions and Guiding Team Weekly meetings on Product and People matters to come up with solutions to address the employees’ concerns.
